About Me

My name is Crystal Becker and I am a Teacher Candidate in the Bachelor of Education program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I have a passion for working with children and have enjoyed my carrer as a Certified Education Assistant (CEA) immensely. After graduating from TRU in 2019 from the Education Assistant and Community Support program and with the honor of receiving the Lieutenant Governors Award that year, I embarked on a carrer that truly has been life changing. Knowing I wanted to continue working with children in education, but ready for a closer connection to children’s education, I decided to embark on my life-long dream carrer as a teacher.

Being outdoors is truly where I am the most at peace. Along with my children and my two dogs, I enjoy hiking the many trails that Kamloops has to offer, camping under the stars, and taking my motor home on adventures. I have a deep respect for the land, and the Indigenous peoples who have cared for it for generations. Their connection to the land and their wisdom is something I greatly honor and value and I aim to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of these values to my future students.

I am committed to the First Peoples Principles of Learning by respecting and honoring Indigenous knowledge and culture within my future practice. I will make sure to create a safe and welcoming environment where every student’s voice is heard and valued. I recognize the importance of relationships, learning from the land, and understanding the interconnectedness of all things. I will incorporate storytelling, cultural traditions, and local Indigenous perspectives into lessons to deepen students’ learning experiences. By fostering respect, inclusion, and awareness of Indigenous teachings, I strive to support all learners in a meaningful and holistic way.
