Personal Blog About Teaching and Learning

Blog 1 Teaching and Learning

Teaching and learning are dynamic, interconnected processes that shape our understanding of the world. Effective teaching encourages curiosity, promotes critical thinking, and creates a supportive environment where students feel empowered to explore new ideas. In turn, learning thrives in spaces where knowledge is not just delivered but experienced through hands-on activities, discussions, and problem-solving. Teachers play a crucial role in guiding students, providing feedback, and fostering a growth mindset. By embracing diverse teaching methods and continuously adapting to learners’ needs, educators can inspire a lifelong passion for learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

Blog 2 Being a Champion Teacher

Being a champion teacher means going beyond the traditional role of an educator. It’s about believing in your students, supporting them through challenges, and celebrating their successes. A champion teacher builds trust and creates an environment where students feel valued and capable. By recognizing each student’s unique strengths and offering guidance tailored to their needs, you empower them to reach their full potential. Champion teachers inspire confidence, resilience, and a love for learning, helping students not only succeed academically but also grow as individuals. When you champion your students, you set them on a path to lifelong success and self-belief.

On my last day of practicum, I was gifted the most beautiful book written by the students where they explained “The important thing about Ms. Becker.” Cue tears.

Blog 3 Equity and Inclusion

Equity and inclusion are fundamental to creating a learning environment where every student can thrive. Not every student learns the same way, and recognizing this diversity is key to fostering success. Some students may excel with hands-on activities, while others might benefit from visual aids or verbal instructions. By embracing different learning styles and providing tailored support, teachers can ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to succeed. Equity goes beyond fairness—it’s about meeting each student where they are and giving them the resources and encouragement they need to reach their full potential. Inclusion ensures no one is left behind.

Blog 4 Incorporating The Circle of Courage in the classroom

Incorporating the Circle of Courage into an elementary classroom in British Columbia is essential for fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment. The Circle of Courage emphasizes four key principles: belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. By integrating these principles, educators can help students build self-esteem, develop social-emotional skills, and create a sense of community. Promoting belonging encourages students to feel safe and valued, while mastery boosts their confidence in their abilities. Independence cultivates responsibility, and generosity nurtures empathy. Together, these elements support the holistic growth of students, preparing them to thrive both academically and socially in school and beyond.
