Weytk! Hello! Bonjour!
My name is Crystal Becker and I am a Teacher Candidate in the Bachelor of Education program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I have a passion for working with children and have enjoyed my carrer as a Certified Education Assistant (CEA) immensely. After graduating from TRU in 2019 from the Education Assistant and Community Support program and with the honor of receiving the Lieutenant Governors Award that year, I embarked on a carrer that truly has been life changing. Within this fulfilling career as a CEA I have developed a deep passion for equity and inclusion. I aim to approach my career as a teacher with that same drive, to create a space where every voice is heard, valued and respected. I am committed to ensuring that all students are met where they are at with the knowledge that no one child learns the same as the other. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine and I am here to show my three wonderful children that learning is a life-long process and it is never too late to go after what you have always wanted.
Being outdoors is truly where I am the most at peace. Along with my children and my two dogs, I enjoy hiking the many trails that Kamloops has to offer, camping under the stars, and taking my motor home on adventures. I have a deep respect for the land, and the Indigenous peoples who have cared for it for generations. Their connection to the land and their wisdom is something I greatly honor and value and I aim to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of these values to my future students.
As a Certified Education Assistant, a parent of a child with learning struggles, and a teacher candidate in the Bachelor of Education program at TRU, I have a deep, firsthand understanding of what an inclusive classroom looks like. I am passionate about fostering a learning environment where every student, regardless of their background or learning needs, feels valued and supported.
Through my unique perspective as both an educator and a parent, I have seen the importance of embracing diversity and promoting equity in the classroom. I strongly believe that every child has the potential to succeed when provided with the right support and opportunities. I am committed to creating an inclusive, accessible, and compassionate space for students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
My experiences have shaped my approach as a teacher candidate, and I am dedicated to using these insights to help create a classroom that reflects the values of diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all learners. I am confident that these qualities make me a strong candidate for any teaching position, and I am eager to bring my passion for inclusive education to a future classroom.
